Digital Divide Eradication Program

The Alpha Foundation is proud to roll out the Digital Divide Eradication Program for the 2005 and 2006 calendar years. Our aim is to address the digital divide by taking technology training and workshops directly into the communities that need these services but lack the resources. According to the US Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) fourth annual report in October 2000, 13% of households with less than $15,000 in income have Internet access while 78% of those with incomes of $75,000 and above have access.

With your help in kind, or financial donation, we can begin to offset some of these figures and afford all that we can reach the opportunity to experience this technology revolution while building on their skillset. Beginning September 1, 2005 we will be holding weekly training in community centers in and around Metro Atlanta from 9AM – 1 PM. The training will cover:

o       Overview of PC logic

o       What is software and how does it make my computer work?

o       Basic computer operation

o       MicrosoftÒ WindowsÒ operations2

o       Working with Excel and Word documents

o       Internet Essentials

o       Emails (composing, sending, receiving)

o       Taking care of your computer

If you are from a family in the Metro-Atlanta area with a total household income of $25,000 or less and would like to receive training, please contact us at help@alphafoundation.org to sign-up.
